Aik Pal Episode 1 - Hum TV Dramas
Aik Pal Episode 1
The drama shows a contrast between the lives of two girls, Bareera (Arij Fatyma)and Noor Fatima (Sumbhul Iqbal) . Noor Fatima is the poor village girl who is dependent on her taaya for her education and he isn’t allowing her to study. Plus he has captured her father’s land, which could have been her financial help. Her views on money are, “Wealth ka matlab, dunya ki sab se taaqat-war cheez, jis se ham ilm bhi khareed sakte hain.”
On the other hand, Bareera has everything in life. Money, good looks and people who love her. Her intro as a modern, care free and adventurous girl was prolonged and unconvincing. Why would two ladies walking out of a shopping mall have mercy on a girl (Bareera) who is acting like a beggar when she doesn’t even look like one?
Plus it was surprising to see a well off girl like Bareera acting so weird. The way she gobbled up the burger was like she hadn’t eaten for days. Khair, she will pay for this later as was evident from the last scene of the episode. Oops!
What goes wrong with these lesson-based dramas is a)they are too preachy and b) too cliched. Up till now, Aik Pal isn’t any of the either. We have cliched characters but there is a limit to the cliches. Bareera’s family consists of a caring and a mature religious sister (Beena) and a loving father who believes in giving his daughter some space. Compared to the regular disappointed fathers and the annoying sisters, these two are a treat to watch.
The next character is Musaf Ameer Ali (Affan Waheed) who is a simple, kind and caring person. He belongs to a village and believes that doing anything good for his village folk does not count as a favour. He has set up a school for the kids of his village.
Bechara Mushaf! He has to live in the same hostel room as Umair (Danish Taimoor) who is a rich, carefree playboy and hates his parents. This is why he stays at the hostel away from his parents. He is well prepared for his roommate and when he catches Musaf sleeping in his room, he throws water at the poor guy. Jo meri territory mein ayega, uske sath yahi hoga!
To his surprise, Musaf walks away without a fight and doesn’t even bring this up until the next morning when Umair greets him. Musaf’s reply to Umair’s “Good morning” was “Assalam-o-Alaikum” and that scene brought a smile to my face.
Things work in Noor Fatima’s favour for now and taaya ji decides to let her go to the city for MBA. Kama kar apni maa aur bhai ko sambhale gi, yahan rahi tou zameenon ka hisaab maang le gi. Noor’s taaya ka beta (Ali Safina) is interested in her and is the main obstacle in her path right now.
Overall, I enjoyed watching the drama. This is a good start for a play I wasn’t expecting a lot from. The characters are well-etched and the pace is perfect. Hopefully it will stay the same. The writer Sarwat Nazeer and director Siraj-ul-Haq have done a wonderful job. It will be interesting to see these four youngsters enroll in the same university. Let’s see what happens from now on.

آف سیکچوئل میڈیسن کے مطابق ایک منٹ سے پہلے انزال ہوجانا سرعت انزال
کہلاتا ہے۔
مارنی کہتی ہیں کہ اگر دوران پیشاب اسے تین سے پانچ سیکنڈ روک کر رکھا
جائے اور پھر جاری کردیا جائے تو مثانے اور انزال کو کنٹرول کرنے والے پی
سی عضلات یا کیگل عضلات متحرک ہوجاتے ہیں جسم کے دیگر پٹھوں کی طرح کیگل
پٹھے بھی ورزش سے طاقتور ہوجاتے ہیں۔ جب یہ پٹھے مضبوط ہوجائیں تو مرد
انزال کو بھی اپنی مرضی سے کنٹرول کرسکتا ہے۔ دوران پیشاب چند بار روکنے
اور جاری کرنے کی مشق کی جاسکتی ہے۔ اسے تقریباً 5 سیکنڈ کیلئے روک کر
رکھیں اور پھر جاری کردیں۔
اسی طرح یہ مشق دیگر اوقات میں بھی کی جاسکتی ہے۔ آپ کسی بھی وقت یہ
ورزش کرنے کیلئے جسم کے نچلے حصے کے پٹھوں کو (مثانے کو کنٹرول کرنے والے
پٹھے) اسی طرح سکیڑین جیسے آپ پیشاب روکنے کیلئے ہیں۔ ابتدائی طور پر پٹھوں
کو 5 سیکنڈ کیلئے سکیڑ کر رکھنے کی مشق کریں اور پھر دورانیہ بڑھاتے
جائیں۔ مارنی کہتی ہیں کہ ان کی تحقیق سے ثابت ہوچکا ہے کہ تین ماہ تک
روزانہ یہ ورزش متعدد بار کرنے سے مخصوص وقت میں 4 گناہ اضافہ ہوسکتا ہے۔
وہ تجویز کرتی ہیں کہ اس ورزش کو روزانہ چند بار سے شرع کرکے تقریباً 50
بار روزانہ تک لے جائیں اور سرعتِ انزال کو ہمیشہ کیلئے بھول جائیں

کرنے کا دعویٰ کردیا ہے۔
پروفیسر مارٹن فسینجر کی قیادت میں کی گئی تحقیق کے مطابق جسم کے متعلقہ
حصے میں مصنوعی ڈی این اے داخل کیا جائے گا اور اس کے بعد مذکورہ حصہ پر
جب بھی نیلی روشنی پڑے گی تو اس میں ازخود تناﺅ پیدا ہوجائے گا۔ سائنسدانوں
کا کہنا ہے کہ یہ طریقہ مردانہ کمزوری کی ادویات سے اس لحاظ سے بھی بہتر
ہے کہ اس کے ذریعے کسی بھی وقت نیلی روشنی استعمال کرتے ہوئے مطلوبہ نتائج
حاصل کئے جاسکتے ہیں۔ اس عمل میں نیلی روشنی ایک ’آن سوئچ‘ کا کام کرتی
ہے۔ ماہرین کا کہنا ہے کہ جسم میں داخل کئے گئے مصنوعی ڈی این اے پر جب بھی
نیلی روشنی پڑے گی تو یہ کیلشیم چینلز کو بند کرکے مطلوبہ حصے میں خون کی
گردش بڑھا دے گا جس کے نتیجے میں حسب ضرورت عرصے کے لئے تناﺅ کی کیفیت
برقرار رہے گی۔ ماہرین نے یہ بھی بتایا ہے کہ موجودہ ادویات کے برعکس اس
طریقہ کے کوئی سائیڈ افیکٹ بھی نہیں ہیں۔ نیلی روشنی کے طریقہ کو ایک
معیاری طریقہ علاج کے طور پر متعارف کروانے کے لئے تحقیقی کام تاحال جاری
ہے۔

Smell & Taste Treatment and Research Foundation کی جانب سے کی گئی تحقیق میں یہ بات سامنے آئی ہے کہ وہ لوگ جن کا وزن زیادہ تھا کو تیز بھوک میں سبز سیب اور کیلے سونگھنے کو دئیے گئے اور ان کے وزن میں کمی دیکھی گئی جبکہ جن لوگوں نے یہ پھل نہیں سونگھیں ان کا وزن کم نہ ہوا۔اگر آپ کے پاس یہ چیزین دستیاب نہ ہوں تو آپ وینیلا اور پودینہ بھی سونگھ سکتے ہیں۔

فرانسیسی خبر رساں ایجنسی اے ایف پی نے لاہور پولیس کی ترجمان نبیلا غضنفر کے حوالے سے بتایا ہے کہ خودکش دھماکوں کے بعد قریبی گلیوں میں پرتشدد احتجاجی مظاہروں کے دوران مشتعل ہجوم نے دو افراد کو تشدد کر کے ہلاک کر دیا۔
’مشتعل ہجوم نے تشدد کر کے دو افراد کو ہلاک کر دیا کیونکہ ان کے خیال میں ان دونوں کا تعلق خودکش حملہ آوروں سے تھا۔‘

اے ایف پی کی اس واقعے کی تصاویر بھی موجود ہیں جن کو شائع نہیں کیا جا سکتا ہے۔
اتوار کو یوحنا آباد میں چرچ کے گیٹ پر دو خودکش دھماکوں میں کم از کم 15 افراد ہلاک اور درجنوں زخمی ہوگئے۔
اس واقعے کے بعد لاہور سمیت مختلف شہروں میں عیسائی برادری نے احتجاجی مظاہرے کیے ہیں۔
لاہور میں مظاہرین نے ہاتھوں میں ڈنڈے اٹھا رکھے تھے اور وہ میٹرو بس سٹیشن میں توڑ پھوڑ کی۔
مظاہرین کی جانب سے سرکاری املاک کے علاوہ وہاں موجود پرائیویٹ گاڑیوں کے شیشے توڑے گئے اور دکانوں کو بھی نشانہ بنایا گیا۔
Porterfield hits out at ICC’s blurred vision
Ireland captain William Porterfield on Sunday questioned the International Cricket Council ICC)’s vision for the sport after the non-Test nation faced the axe from the World Cup.
Ireland lost to Pakistan by seven wickets at the Adelaide Oval in a match that lifted the winners into the quarter-final and sent the loser home.
With the ICC planning to reduce the next World Cup in England in 2019 from 14 teams to 10, Porterfield hoped it was not the end of the Irish dream in the sport.
“I’d love to think it was not our last World Cup game,” the skipper said. “Obviously it will be interesting to see what their [the ICC’s] vision for the game is.
“We need to know that and everyone wants to know that because if their vision is to grow the game, then cutting teams in world competitions will not be the right thing.
“I think the next World Cup is two or three days longer than this World Cup, so when you’ve got four fewer teams and your competition drags out longer, that’s not an excuse.”
Porterfield did not expect an immediate response from the ICC on the matter.
“I’m sure they’re hoping everything blows over the next few weeks and they don’t hear much from us,” he said. “Then it will be easy to brush it under the carpet. But I think something has to be done if they want to grow the game.”
Porterfield insisted Ireland needed to continue playing at the top level despite their first round exit — mainly due to an inferior run-rate to the West Indies.
“We’ve missed out on the quarter-finals only on run rate,” he said. “I think we’ve shown what we can do. We’ve done plenty enough. The other non-Test nations have also put on some great performances and they’ve played even less cricket than we have.”
Porterfield hoped the ICC will not ignore pleas from cricket’s greats like Sachin Tendulkar to expand the World Cup, rather than shrink it.
“If you cut us out of the World Cup then what’s the point really for us to keep going,” he said.
“A lot of people have spoken out that it is the wrong move, a lot of influential people have said that. So I don’t think the ICC can just ignore that.”
Church attack: A community mourns the dear departed
The screams of his widow and two daughters echo within the walls, and his brother relates how it happened.
“When the terrorists came to the Roman Catholic Church, three boys asked them to identify themselves,” says Riaz Fazal, his eyes red rimmed, and his face swollen from crying. “They shot two of the boys point blank. But Goga intercepted them, and pushed them back, and in that time, a terrorist blew himself up.”
Goga was martyred, he says, defending the lives of 1,000 people inside the church who were having their last prayers of Sunday Mass.
Youhanabad is a major locality of the Christian population and there are several churches big and small, but its residents complain that not enough security has been provided to them especially on Sundays when they gather for Mass.
People say that after attacking the Roman Catholic Church, two of the terrorists attempted to abscond but the mob caught them and beat them to death before burning them. Till late afternoon, their bodies lay burning on the main road, and the public was taking videos and photographs of the gruesome scene.
“At one point before being beaten the police had caught them,” relates a local woman. “But they kept cursing us saying, ‘you Christians ought to be killed in blasts everyday’. It was almost as if they were inviting the mob.”
Others especially those outside the church complain that there were only three policemen for security measures but even two of them were in a nearby shop watching the cricket match.
Ayub Sardar, a security volunteer for this church, says the police personnel are never enough for them and they always have to take security measures themselves. “It is easy to identify outsiders because we know our community,” he says.
The blue gate of the church has been blown off and now community volunteers have formed a human chain, and propped up ladders and rods in order to stop the crowd from coming in. Yet people are still coming to pay homage to their place of worship.
The other church that was attacked a few moments before this one faced slightly less damage.
“We had an iron gate that luckily stopped the men from coming in,” says Reverend Irshad Ashknaz of the Christ Church. “But there were attempts to first shoot down the church’s gate, and when that did not happen, they went to the second gate which is the entrance to the church’s school and tried to blow that up. They had come on a motorcycle.”
“What more security can we provide for ourselves?” asks the vicar. “We have barbed wires on the wall, since after the APS attack, and that helped,” he says.
Angry residents chant slogans against the government especially the chief minister. “This is CM Shahbaz Sharif’s constituency,” says one of them. “Neither the CM nor any of the MPAs and MNAs including Shehla Tariq and Shakil Marcus Khokar from this area had done any kind of development work here, nor do they come to visit.”
“We are in a quandary because we are given representatives who do no work, and on the other side, we cannot elect our own because minority representatives are always chosen for us. Almost all the basic facilities have been given to us by our churches, otherwise we have no dispensaries, no health facilities, no access to clean drinking water or a good sewerage system. Even the roads are rough and untarred,” says Pastor Javed.
“The youth is not supported by the government through jobs. When they go for work they are only offered the work of a sweeper.”
An angry woman curses the police saying they often harass young boys on the pretext of drinking. “I would like to know where has all the money gone which these representatives show that they have spent on development work here?”
Sadly, the biggest supporter of the ruling PML-N was Goga himself. “He used to ask us to vote for the PML-N and we always listened to him but what is the party doing now that they are in power. We cannot even feel safe in our own homes”
“The Christian community is degraded, disgraced and pushed to the wall,” says Zafar Iqbal, Goga’s nephew, who is waiting for his uncle’s body to come. “It took a person from our own community after all to protect us. Because of him, 1,000 people have been saved today. This is the biggest sacrifice.”
Information collected by IB played vital role in raid on Nine Zero
Both on-and off-the-record discussions with former and serving officials of different law-enforcement agencies corroborate the fact that lack of collaboration between the two agencies had long been undermining effective operations against criminal elements.
But, they said, with the continuation of civilian governments in Islamabad, the IB had started strengthening its foothold and providing actionable intelligence to law-enforcers.
According to a senior official closely associated with IB’s operations, during the previous PPP government it had started building a consolidated databank on extortionists and targeted killers belonging to different religious and political parties operating in Karachi.
“Although no action was taken by the PPP government against these gangs because of political considerations, we kept following their activities and, in the process, gathered authentic statistics.”
As a result when in Sept 2013, the PML-N government decided to launch the operation in Karachi, the IB readily provided details of the affiliates of political parties involved in criminal activities.
According to the official, if political will prevails, Karachi’s situation can be effectively handled “as we have enough actionable intelligence at our disposal, including minute details of militant organisations and their sub-networks”.
“The initial success of the Karachi operation, which soon lost its intensity because of political considerations, is witness to the veracity of IB’s information,” he claimed.
Explaining how the IB had evolved into a functioning agency over the recent years, another official said that after General Parvez Musharraf’s years in power during which the agency played second fiddle to the ISI, the PPP government earmarked some resources for its operations. The incoming PML-N government continued equipping the IB with required tools.
A former senior official of the IB said that regular military interventions had led to the undoing of the IB, which until 1979 was considered a useful civilian spying entity. The agency fell prey to politicisation during 90s as successive PML-N and PPP governments influenced its operations to suit their interests.
Gen Musharraf deprived the IB of whatever resources it had, thereby making it a toothless agency, said the official.
Former interior secretary Tasneem Noorani (2001-2005) said that for obvious reasons Mr Musharraf had more confidence in the well- equipped ISI than the IB. As a result the latter was sent to the periphery and lost the opportunity of developing into a potent force. But he agreed that of late the IB had started making positive contributions.
In reply to a question, Mr Noorani said the raid on the headquarters of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement showed that the agencies had done adequate homework and were in possession of irrefutable evidence against those arrested.
On the lack of cooperation between the IB and ISI, which had long been considered as a hurdle in the way of effective intelligence operations, a senior police official, who had been posted in Karachi, said: “A healthy competition between the two agencies can yield a win-win situation. I am happy that the two agencies have started increasingly cooperating with each other.”
He said an effective IB could make a positive contribution to the success of the efforts to counter terrorism. “Although, the military-led Rangers are playing a leading role in reining in targeted killers in Karachi, there is no doubt that the IB has played a vital role in recent successes.”
“And this happens all over the world as countries do maintain multiple agencies but their actions end up in protecting their people,” he added.
Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, while launching the first internal security policy, duly mentioned “trust deficit between the two agencies”. But on Feb 4 he jubilantly informed the National Assembly about a rare cooperation between the ISI and the IB, which led to the foiling of a deadly suicide plan against people belonging to Shia Hazara community of Quetta.
